The election season is heating up. So political emails of opinions and jabs are on the rise. I normally don’t forward such stuff from the Internet, but along came this story that’s so timely and so true that I couldn’t resist.
It’s inspired by an article attributed to Charlie Reese, former columnist for the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.
Have you ever wondered, if both Democrats and Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does.
100 senators.
435 representatives.
1 president.
9 Supreme Court justices.
That’s 545 people out of some 300 million citizens.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. Those 545 spend much of their energy convincing us that what they did is not their fault.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot influence 545 people who are acting with incompetence and irresponsibility.
They should be held accountable by we the people who are their bosses – provided we the voters have the gumption to manage our own employees.

This is why Plato and Aristotle preferred the dictatorship as the preferred mode.
